The Most Important Tool in the Kitchen

Using a reliable meat thermometer is the best and most reliable way to ensure your food safety while cooking delicious meat!  So let's start with the very basics--  Different types of meat require varying temperatures to ensure they're cooked enough to prevent food borne illness. For example done temperature for pork is not the same as done temperature for a beef steak or a chicken.  An instant read food thermometer is truly the only way to know that that precise temperature has been reached! Here at Over the Moon we recommend investing in 2 so that you always have a backup in case one starts acting up right when you're trying to cook that perfect pork chop or t bone steak....

Dried Flower Wreath Season has ARRIVED!

And just in time for those first snowflakes to fall here in Eastern, Iowa. The weather today was a real reminder that we are in fact heading into winter and it's going to be some months before those glorious blooming flower fields again.  But not to worry. We saved many flowers that can still creatively be brought into your home or office. Winter Meat CSA: Highlight #1 Pasture Raised CHICKEN!

As we move towards December, we wanted to spend the next couple of weeks highlighting the nourishing food that will be included in our Winter Meat CSA So let's start with the basics. What is our Winter Meat CSA?  Think of it like a monthly subscription box of our premium local meat-- delivered right to your door from December through February. Perfect timing for all that hearty cooking. Peony Planting in November!

This past weekend we planted 100 roots of one of our  favorite perennial flowers-- PEONIES. It was a gorgeous day for it and we've certainly been lucky with this sunny and warm early November.  Let's start with a few definitions first so we're all on the same page.  Perennial: enduring or continually recurring. Aka, plants that come back year after year.  Annual: occurring once every year. Aka, plants that grow only for one season.  Peonies are perennials and should continue to grow and bloom for many, many years to come.
